Tubac was established in 1752 as a Spanish presidio (fort). Working artists' studios now surround the grounds which once served as the home for a Spanish military garrison. Tubac remembers its origins at the Tubac Presidio State Historic Park located in the village's Old Town, and no visit to Tubac is complete without a stop at our State Park.
Scenic high desert vistas surround Tubac, and the village enjoys a year-around economy that benefits from summer temperatures notably cooler that Tucson or Phoenix. More than ninety businesses now line Tubac's meandering streets, and a full day can be enjoyed wandering through the numerous art galleries, working studios and gift shops. The Tubac Center of the Arts provides a full range of arts programming, and seasonal exhibitions should not be missed. A variety of locally owned restaurants are open for for both lunch and dinner, and our marvelous bed & breakfasts mean that your visit to Tubac doesn't have to end when the shops close!
We hope you enjoy your visit to our unique community known as the place Where Art & History Meet!
Tubac is an artist colony type village in Southern Arizona. Dozens of arts and craft stores line the main street. Eating places abound and there is the Tubac State Park and presidio with lots of historical exhibits of territorial days.
Nearby is the Titan Missile base where we can tour the underground launch facility once used as a deterrent force during the Cold War.
Don't forget Wisdon's Mexican Restaurant advice: eat light and save room to enjoy the dessert chimmi.
Near to the Mission is the Santa Cruse Chilli factory with delicious sauces not sold north of Tucson. Taste them and stock up.
