Point of Rocks
Prescott, Arizona

Our outing in Prescott got of to a breezy start as eight units of campers converged on the Point of Rocks RV Park. The day was clear, sunny and quite breezy giving the chill in the air a bit of emphasis.

Our hardy group decided on a spur of the moment to venture north to Chino Valley and the Iron Horse Café for a quick lunch. This is a place that one would not give a second glance to when driving by. However, one should. The food was good, service efficient and friendly.

Later in the afternoon there was plenty of time to visit with each other in the campground.

The following morning we car-pooled into Downtown Prescott and visited the Smoki Museum. This interesting site holds a great many Indian artifacts and historical pieces of the early days when this was still considered Indian Territory.

Returned to camp to prepare for the evening pot-luck. Since the wind had not yet abated, we transferred the food to the Rodgers home, just a few miles away from the RV park. As expected, the dinner was up to our high standards and no one left hungry.

After dinner plans for the camp outs for the rest of the season were discussed and finalized as much as was possible.

Our second morning we once again returned to downtown Prescott and enjoyed a wonderful breakfast in the Peacock Room of the Hassayampa Hotel. Then found the Sharlott Hall Museum which includes the first Territorial Governor’s Mansion and many other historical buildings and exhibits. Including the home of Senator John C. and Jesse Benton Fremont.

After some additional exploring in the downtown area we reconvened at the camp for some more stories and tall tales. Some folks visited the casino while others enjoyed the excellent western art at the Phippen Museum of Western Art.

The wind dissipated in the evening long enough to allow for a campfire to warm the evening and bring out a round of stories and jokes.

Finally, as all good things do, the scheduled camp came to an end and after goodbys, we saddled up and returned home to face the real world for a few weeks when we again gather in Cottonwood on November 13th. It would be wonderful to see all of you there.
