Homolovi Ruins, State Park
Winslow, Arizona

Those in attendance were: Dale & Phoebe Rodgers, Ray &Victor & Barbara Kaufman, Fletcher & Gwen Spigner, Don Costello.
Arrival on Monday the 9th to set up and. Cold and windy weather thus no campfire.
Tuesday morning breakfast at the Rodgers. Phoebe fixed quiche and sweet bread. The wind had not yet subsided, so food was delivered to each unit. Very good food.
Afterward everyone went exploring the park on their own.

Wednesday morning we we visited two of the ruins at Homolovi and enjoyed being able to actually pick up the pottery shards and flint tools left behind hundreds of years ago by the residents (definitely a must see).
Returned to the camp for the afternoon pot-luck dinner. Along with the bring your own main dish, we had potato salad, green salad, bread, chicken tortilla soup, peach pie, apple pie and chocolate dessert to share.
That evening at the campfire we were jWin06_Camp.JPG (33942 bytes)oined by the camp host, Dick Block and Louise, (who is a visitor from Montreal Quebec, touring the southwest.)
Plans laid for the next month were finalized. We will be going to Lake Pleasant Regional Park on Wed. Nov. 8th. (Don’t forget to vote on the 7th.) Leaving on the 11th. At this camp out, the men will be in charge of supplying the side dishes and the main dish will again be a bring your own. There are fire pits, feel welcome to bring wood for the campfire.
Thursday was our day to tour the La Posada Hotel in Winslow and to have lunch there in the Harvey House Dining Room. From there it was onWin06_Hunt.JPG (18571 bytes) to the local museum then back to camp. Our camp fires must be interesting as the host, Dick Block, returned and this time brought his wife, Linda.
All too soon Friday morning arrived an thus ended our first outing of the season. A good time was enjoyed and we are anxious to meet again in November at Lake Pleasant.
