Where We Have Been
The 2005 - 2006 Season
November 2004
Buckskin Mountain State Park
Arrival day varied between the early ones on Sunday the 7th and the main group on Monday. Sunday afternoon brought one of those rain showers that could be easily called "Frog Strangling". Over three inches of rain fell in the afternoon and evening. Monday morning, however, turned clear and perfect, as did the rest of the week.
Members attending included: our newest members, Dennis & Laura Barber, along with Don & Maria Costello, Ray & Shirley Fuller, Paul & Carol Gillespie, Vic & Barbara Kaufman, Eddy & Rosie Kirwan, Fletcher & Gwen Spigner and Beryl & Shirley Wallace. John and Lynn Menton came as day trippers, since they just lived a few miles away.
Monday was spent in meeting and greeting, getting setup and getting acquainted with the Barbers. They are from Mesa and this was their very first time to take out their brand new 25' HI-LO with tip-out. As usual each new unit gets an inspection by most everybody there.
This State Park campground sports a nice little café and store. The café is open from noon to 6 p.m. and runs nightly dinner specials. Monday evening was all you can eat spaghetti for $3.99. As you might expect we pretty much all ate there.
There are no evening campfires yet. We could still gather in a campfire circle near our host’s unit and catch up with the news from everyone present. Tuesday morning the ranger graciously allowed us the use of the park meeting hall for a continental breakfast. Later in the day we ventured out to do some exploring of the area. From hiking the many trails in the park, to venturing south to Parker, stopping to see the indoor water park at the Indian casino and then crossing the bridge into California to wind upriver to cross back atop Parker Dam we filled the day. Tuesday evening the Buckskin Café was running another all-you-can eat special; Beef Stew in a bread bowl. At this rate some one might start thinking about asking HI-LO to drop the cooking equipment in the new trailers, in favor of wider walkways.
Wednesday morning was open for some visitation and then off to Lake
Havasu
City to visit the London Bridge and the shops under the bridge. Also
available were numerous boat tours of Lake Havasu also originating under
the bridge. Finally we wended our way to about the highest point in the
city to the home of our members John & Lynn Menton for a feast of baby
back ribs and all the sides topped with a belt bursting slice of apple
pie al-a-mode.
What a delightful way to end a camp out. Many thanks to John and Lynn for sharing their beautiful home and luscious ribs.
