Where We Have Been
The 2005 - 2006 Season
March 2006Pahrump, Nevada
Wednesday, March 8, the Fishers, Fullers, Kirwans, Mentons, Rodgers & Spigners converged at Terribles Lakeside RV Resort in Pahrumph NV. The spaces were superb, the personnel wonderful and the park lush with tress
After dinner of delicious BBQ beef ribs, and chicken
and lots of other fixins’, many stayed at the casino to see if they
could pay for their dinner. Thursday was more or less an off day so we
could recover from our long drive and the huge meal eaten the evening
before. An exploration of the town revealed the Super Walmart, Ace
Hardware, a thrift store, a Dairy Queen inside the Nugget casino, a
winery, and the town museum. Ray and Shirley’s niece, who lives in
Pahrump, came and visited for the afternoon. On Friday the group bundled
up, (was it mentioned there was snow on the surrounding mountains?), and
headed north to Scotties Castle. What a
wonderful
tour we had and all agreed it was worth the long drive. The Kirwans
raved about a restaurant in Beatty and of course we had to keep them
honest and have lunch there. Good food and even better service. Next
door was Death Valley Nut & Candy Company where some had ice cream and
some were "forced" to get candy. An unknown quantity of candy bags and a
few ice cream cones made their way past the cash register before their
owners packed up and headed back to the resort under the threat of a
storm.
Saturday morning we awoke to lots of snow on the
mountains around us. Our first stop was the buffet to fortify ourselves
with breakfast and everyone promised to meet at 4 to partake in the
prime rib dinner. Again, we had a day of exploring. Some spent quality
time in the casinos, others visiting family. All returned in time for
the prime rib and sharing of the days events. Before we left the dinner
table, we
agreed we must return for the Sunday Brunch at 10am. Jack hit it big at
a poker machine that evening & Phoebe did well on the deuces wild
machine at the Nugget. Neither offered to buy brunch for everyone.
We all appreciated and benefitted from the 2 for 1 buffet tickets we printed from the internet. Everyone ate well and for very little money. Again we spent a leisurely day doing whatever we wanted, but surprise, we didn’t meet at the buffet for dinner.
Two of the days we had snow and it did rain on and off, but all in all we sure did have a great time.
Monday we all packed up and headed home. Thanks to the Fishers for finding such a great park. We won’t hesitate to go there again.
