Where We Have Been
The 2004 - 2005 Season
January - Lost Dutchman State Park
With the weather cooperating marvelously, eighteen campers enjoyed sunshine, clear skies, beautiful scenery and in the evening even shooting stars while enjoying the campfires.
After having two weeks of winter storms with lots of rain and some snow up high, the area was very green and spring flowers were starting to thrust their blossoms up to greet the day.
Our arriving campers were met with chicken soup and
Posse Stew for the first evening. Day two we ventured up the winding
mountain trails with five more day tripper members, to Canyon Lake and
after a leisurely lunch, a nice ride on Canyon Lake aboard the Dolly
Steamboat. Much wildlife is visible from the
large clean windows including the ever present ducks, blue heron and
several big horn sheep. Our boat captain gave a narration on the history
of the lakes, the dams and even some of the "obvious" animal shaped rock
formations.
Day three we enjoyed a potluck breakfast of eggs both with and without chorizo, fresh fruit, juices, specialty breads and biscuits and gravy. Later in the day visited the Superstition Mountain Museum where we were given a special guided tour of the many exhibits with lots of background information on the articles shown. Then a couple presented a history of the Roosevelt Dam and the Apache Trail to all the museum visitors in the amphitheater outside in the warm sunshine.
After working up quite an appetite from all this museum learning, we gathered at the Mining Camp Restaurant for a family style dinner of Ham, Chicken, Ribs and all the go-withs. Each and every person over ate.
Five
new members joined us for at least part of the outing. We were very
happy to meet Bill and BJ Diefenbacher, David and Barbara Mayl and
Arlene Kane.
All too soon it was time to say goodby for a month.
