February 2007
Picacho Peak RV Resort
It is mid February and eight friendly camping units descended on the
Picacho Peak RV Resort to set up for three days of fellowship and
adventure. This park provided our group with sites all together and with
full hookups. We were adjacent to a major highway and cross country
railroad, thus there was plenty of ambient noise to quell the quietness
of the wilderness.
Many of the group visited the nearby ostrich farm. Not only were there
several
hundred ostriches enclosed, there were dozens of deer and the crowning
point of the visit was an aviary filled with sixty-five Lorikeets, an
Australian rainbow parrot. These are nectar eating birds that will sit
patiently on your hand while you hold a small container of liquid food
for them to lap up Very noisy and not recommended to have as a pet.
After a refreshment stop at the Dairy Queen, we returned to our base
camp to complete the food preparations for the evening pot-luck meal.
This was a “grill your own and bring a dish” style of pot-
luck.
Enjoyed a good selection of salads, fruit, spaghetti and chili along
with both apple pie and chocolate cake.
Following the dinner, we held a short business meeting and our President
gave a short recap of our history as a club, this being our tenth
anniversary.
Thursday morning we loaded up into a caravan to visit the nearby Cracker
Barrel restaurant for breakfast, then up into the hills to see members,
Rosie & Eddy’s home. Once again the afternoon gave way to a traditional
siesta and a bit of food prep with the left overs to dine together once
again.
