Where We Have Been

The 2005 - 2006 Season

February at Camp Verde

Our first day was pretty much a "meet and greet" day with time spent in the campfireless circle catching up on photos, activities and other tall tales. For dinner the first evening, we drifted across the highway to the local casino and to "Johnny Rocket’s The Original Hamburger" for the food and fun. Some of the campers decided to donate a few extra coins to the casino management.

Back to camp after the food, the night was dark, with a very cool breeze. Most of the campers elected to drain their water hoses for the overnight and the expected morning freeze. Yes, it was that kind of weather. While the forecasters were predicting snow, or rain, the sky remained cloudless with a half moon glaring down.

The first half of this day was available to view sites of interest in the area. Ft. Verde State Historical Park, Montezuma’s Castle National Monument, Wal-Mart and other places. Finally in late afternoon our twenty some campers gathered in the resort’s common room for our pot-luck. As is always the case with this group there was food a’plenty starting with our hosts’ pulled pork bar-b-que, the variety of sides and salads and an overloaded dessert table.

After the meal and a short club meeting, we learned a new "Pegs and Jokers" game.DSCF1413.JPG (31526 bytes)

Wednesday morning, in time for the planned continental breakfast, Don Costello and Paul Ziminski came up from Scottsdale for the breakfast. They also brought some rather tasty muffins to contribute. A very nice treat.

Much later in the morning most everybody found a friend and traveled up to Sedona and checked out the wide variety of shopping and historical sights to visit. Various places were tested for lunch and most were reported as quite satisfying.

Returning to the camp ground there was some time to "put the world in order" before it became dusk and cool enough to find some food on your own then migrate back to the park rec. room for more conversation and games.

Thursday morning it was once again a time to bid farewells and to make plans to gather again in a couple of weeks at Pahrump, Nevada and at Dead Horse Ranch State Park in April.
