Where We Have Been
The 2005 - 2006 Season
April 18 - 21 at Dead Horse Ranch State Park,
Cottonwood, Arizona
Our first evening in the park, we hastened outside the park to nearby Clarkdale and the Su Casa Mexican Restaurant, for dinner. Put this one on your list of places to make a return visit. The food was fine, the service friendly and the price right. A bit of advice... come early. By the time we were leaving, the parking lot and waiting room were full.Returning to camp we were able to enjoy a campfire in a large firepit.
The next morning was filled with conversation, quick visits to local markets for the freshest additions to the evening pot-luck meal. An inventory was taken of shops that needed to be visited the following day.
We were pleasantly surprised to see an "unknown"
HI-LO come into the park in the afternoon. Turned out to be a nice
couple from Tucson who were new to HI-LO and doing a shake down before
attempting a long trip. After they had found a spot and eaten, they came
walking around the camp loop to see who all these other HI-LOs belonged
to. We welcomed them, had a few minutes to introduce all the members
present and talk about the club, places in common and all those things
that members do. They were Tom and Diana Videtti and were planning to
move on to Sedona to meet some of their friends and some other scheduled
plans before returning to Tucson.
At our informal meeting, we put forward a dozen or so places that we
would like to visit during our next season. Each place was then
discussed with all the pros and cons related to the site and the list
narrowed down to eight to bring up at the May meeting in Show Low. At
this time we would be selecting the final seven destinations for the
next season, deciding on the order and possibly selecting a wagonmaster
for each event.
The "winners" are: (in no particular order) Tubac, Homolovi State Park,
Bonito Camp Ground at Sunset Crater, Roosevelt Lake and the Globe area,
Carlsbad New Mexico, Catalina State Park and Laughlin Nevada.
All members are invited to make their choices known and you are welcome
and encouraged to volunteer to host or wagonmaster one of these events.
Thursday evening there was a local Chinese Buffet that came highly
recommended and we just had to try it out. It also goes on our
recommended list.
Then all too soon, it is time to pack up and head home with plans to
gather in May at Show Low.
